Outreach Projects

As Eastern Catholic Christians, we are called upon to help those in need.  Throughout the year we offer our talents to two organizations:  St. Joseph's Carmelite Home for orphans in East Chicago and the St. Joseph's Food Kitchen in Hammond.  See below for some of the work we have done.

Feeding the Hungry

Some of our most vulnerable community members need food now more than ever.  At St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, as a parish, we have done phenomenal work supporting others who have needed us most.  With Very Reverend Farther Steve Koplinka retiring at the end of November, over 400 nonperishable items weighing over 300 pounds were collected through our parish’s recent food drive.   This food will provide critical meal assistance to individuals and families in need. What we collected will go directly to children, adults, and seniors, struggling with hunger in our local communities.   And when neighbors and friends get involved, they are doing more than just collecting food, they are raising awareness about food insecurity in our community and delivering hope and hunger relief to people in need. Thank you for your tremendous contributions, St. Nicholas family.  We did it again!!! Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.
